Moving, engaging, inspiring!
Three evenings showing the best of the Polish documentaries in both Polish and English language.
12th Nov and 11th Dec
6pm (sharp!!) in the gallery @ the Centre for Creative Practices |
Audiovisual.PL – Polish Documentaries in Dublin is a programme devised to celebrate the Polish Presidency of the EU but first of all to offer audiences in Dublin an opportunity to explore the different topics, styles and techniques of renowned film makers from the Polish Documentary School of the last 50 years. We included into this series films documenting the paranoia of the communistic system and daily life in the People’s Republic of Poland, significant anarchistic and political moments against the regime, stories of individuals struggling with their daily obstacles and of course the typical Polish satire with its black merciless humour. You will laugh, you will cry, you will be shocked and moved but that’s exactly the aim and the magic of the moving image.
All the films were selected in collaboration with the Polish National AudioVisual Institute, the Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź, Adam Mickiewicz Institut and biweekly.pl (Link with Culture).
Krzysztof Kieślowski, Marek Piwowski, Paweł Łoziński, Maciej J. Drygas, Jacek Bławut, Wojciech Wiszniewski, Maria Zmarz-Koczanowicz are the selected directors - all of them influenced many aesthetical trends in world cinema but above all documented in the most appealing way people’s lives and challenged the soulless systems and situations.
Each screening includes up to 10 films varying in the length from 5 minutes to 1 hour – in total around 4 hours. There will be breaks between the films where tea, coffee, herbal tea and a shot of vodka with a salty cucumber and Polish bread will be provided!!!
On our beanbags you will be comfortable enough to stay for the whole evening but if you prefer to join for some selected films only it’s not a problem. People will be let in and out during the breaks between the films.
Book early as there are only 35 places per screening. |

Based in Dublin, ArtPolonia is the most active organisation facilitating intercultural co-operation and exchange between the Polish Community in Ireland and local programmes, events and audiences.
|
It is the only organisation with a specific focus on cultural exchange between both communities. |
Since December 2007 ArtPolonia has also opened its programme to international artists and aims at establishing regular contacts between the international artists and audiences in Dublin. |
In this year’s programme, along with works by excellent Polish artists, were included outstanding works of artists from Ireland, UK, USA, Germany, Sweden and Israel. This approach will be continued. |
|
Through shared projects ArtPolonia seeks to create and enhance new forms of intercultural dialogue as well as personal engagement and exchange.
|
Our long term goal is to establish a professional forum for intercultural cooperation in Dublin with a special focus on the Irish and Polish exchange both in Ireland and Poland. |
Our mission is based on the underestimated fact that in an unstable and permanently changing environment high level cultural events are crucial in the creation of a social space of reference for personal and collective identities, values as well as for involvement and development. |
Artpolonia in operation:
- Professionalorganisation of high level intercultural events in Ireland
- Support, promotion of relevant contemporary productions, artists and arts organisations
- For Irish arts organisations the provision with connection with the Polish audiences, artists and their works
- Supporting Polish and international artists in realising and utilising their artistic potential
- Supporting Irish artists by presenting their works internationally
- Interdisciplinary cultural education
- Creative social inclusion for volunteers
- Building a contacts and information database on Irish, Polish and international artists in Ireland as well as on intercultural programmes, initiatives and funding opportunities
- Participation and initiation of international intercultural initiatives
