“One of the world's most extraordinary new klezmer outfits” – AllAboutJazz.com, January 2006 |
|
Formerly known as The Cracow Klezmer Band, this startlingly innovative Polish quartet delves into the dark side of the Klezmer tradition, eschewing the whirling Hora and Bulgar dance tunes normally associated with Yiddish music for a intoxicating blend of traditional, jazz and avant garde music. Don’t miss them on 16 October at The Coach House, Dublin Castle. Tickets €15/€10 conc./€40 family are available from Tel (01) 671 9429 or admin@musicnetwork.ie. Music Network will host a reception at 6:00pm on the evening of the concert with light refreshments and an opportunity to sample klezmer music with members of the North Strand Klezmer Band. All are welcome to this event. |
Something of a phenomenon on the world music scene, The Bester Quartet have a sound that is devastatingly unique: nightmarish soundscapes morph into pulsating dance rhythms; soaring melodies dissolve into the sounds of creaking ship’s timbers or the distant cry of a bird (continuing the long standing Klezmer tradition of using instruments to imitate non musical sounds). |
The group’s original and daring repertoire makes it a perfect fit for John Zorn’s highly regarded Tzadik label, with whom they have recorded six albums to date. They have toured extensively in Europe and North America, performing and recording with the likes of Tomasz Stanko, Grazyna Auguscik, John McLean, Don Byron and Jorgos Skolias. |
Music Network tours provide a wonderful opportunity to see some of the world’s foremost music ensembles at affordable prices in venues around Ireland and are presented in association with The Irish Times and RTÉ lyric fm. Music Network is funded by The Arts Council. Further information from Music Network at (01) 671 9429 or www.musicnetwork.ie. |
