Liberty Hall, Eden Quay is the venue for an explosive concert with Polish cellist Andrzej Bauer. Bauer, one of the world's leading cellists, will perform his unique project Cellotronicum which was conceived to bring together in one extended work the music of numerous leading composers and to demonstrate the cello's range of sound potential, amplified, transformed and enriched by computer instrumental technology. The result is a brilliant spectrum of sounds unheard of before.
The premiere of hitherto composed works took place during the 'Warsaw Autumn' Festival of 2002 and were recognised as one of the most important artistic events of the festival.
Cellotronicum compositions:
Jacek Grudzień / Ad Naan
Michał Talma-Sutt / Cellotronicum
Sławomir Kupczak / ANAFORA V
Karen Tanaka / The Song of the Songs.
Bauer is supported in this Culture Night performance by Ireland's Godfather of electro-acoustic music Roger Doyle and his new free-improvisation ensemble General Practice. Featured performer in General Practice is one of Ireland's most innovative electric guitarists Keith O'Brien who also uses laptop to free-generate electronically his improvisations. A main feature of the concert is a performance of Doyle's masterpiece Under the Green Time. Composed for Uilleann Pipes and tape, played here by renowned piper Brian Ó hUiginn, Under the Green Time is a brilliant distortion of received notions of Irishness, Irish traditional music and Celticism.
